Scandinavian Tours

Our Scandinavian tours give you a taste of the Scandinavian culture. These escorted tours begin in Stockholm-the "Venice of the North." Then, you will continue by overnight train to Swedish Lapland followed by a motor coach tour through the stark, yet compelling landscape of low ridges, wide river valleys and tundra-grazing reindeer. You'll drive on to Karasjok, the capital of Norwegian Lapland, for an introduction to Sami culture. Next, your escorted Scandinavian tour takes you to the arctic mining town of Kirkenes, where you'll board the Norwegian Coastal Voyage for an amazing southbound voyage. Six days later, you'll arrive in the old, still-bustling port town of Bergen and begin a tour of Norway's southern fjord country. After spending a day in Oslo, you'll take an overnight cruise to charming Copenhagen, where you will have a day to play before your flight home.

Your Escorted Scandinavian tour begins with an overnight flight to Stockholm.

Arrive at Arlanda Airport where you'll meet your tour director and transfer to your hotel. The day is yours to explore this political and economic centre. The mix of old and new architecture tells the story of Stockholm's long history and continued growth. Be sure to make it back in time for a welcome dinner in the Old Town. [D]

After breakfast, you'll tour Stockholm's sights: the "Golden Hall" at City Hall, site of the Nobel Prize banquet; Old Town with its cobblestone streets and thirteenth-century Cathedral. You'll pass by the Royal Palace and Stock Exchange before traveling on to the island park of Djurgarden, once the royal hunting preserve, and today, home to several museums. This day of your Scandinavian tour ends with a free afternoon to continue exploring Stockholm on your own. [B]

Sightsee until the late afternoon when you will transfer to the railroad station for the overnight express train to Swedish Lapland. [B/D]

In the morning, arrive in this mining town, known for its rich deposits of iron, copper, silver and gold. Transfer by motor coach to Karasjok. Visit the Samiland Center to see examples of Sami craftsmanship and dine in a traditional turf hut. [B/D]

Travel by motor coach across tundra-covered hills, birch woods and bogs to Kirkenes, where you'll embark on your Norwegian Coastal Voyage. [B/L/D]

As you sail from Kirkeness south, imposing vistas abound, rich in history and mystery waiting for you to uncover. From your stop in Hammerfest to the old trading post of Skjervoy, you'll have time to savor a rich nightlife and days filled with exploration. Your voyage includes a skillfully maneuvered journey through the shallow waters of the Risoyrenna Channel and narrow Raftsun Strait. You'll cross the Arctic Circle, passing the lovely island of Sandnessjoen. As your voyage continues be sure you're on deck for your chance to see the mythical Seven Sisters Mountains. You'll stop at additional ports where you'll enjoy visits to medieval churches, stolen moments on shore strolls, shopping and ample opportunity to take advantage of additional shore excursions. In the afternoon, arrive in Bergen, where your local guide will take you on a tour of this historic city before you are escorted to your hotel for a well-deserved rest. [B/L/D]

After breakfast, drive by motor coach along the shores of Soerfjord. You'll proceed past the scenic Tvindefoss waterfall and along Lake Oppheim to Stalheim, where you will descend the legendary hairpin turns of its canyon road through the enchanting Naeroydal Valley to Gudvangen, for a ferry cruise on the Naeroyfjord. You'll enjoy a delicious lunch in the charming fjord village of Flam. Board the Flam Railway for a scenic ride high up the mountains to the Myrdal station, transfer to the Bergen Railway for another thrilling ride to Voss; proceed by motor coach to the delightful village of Lofthus. Your morning departure from Lofthus will take you past the village of Kinsarvik and along the shores of the Eidsfjord. You will then ascend through tunnels, up almost vertical rock faces and around hairpin turns to Fossil. Enjoy the view of the Voeringfoss waterfall, where the Bjoreia River plunges 600 feet into a narrow rock basin. Drive along the wild Hardangervidda mountain plateau, and then continue through the lovely Hallingdal, with a stop at Hadeland Glassworks before your final stop of the day in Oslo. [B]

Tour the city of Oslo, a city filled with history and cultural significance. You'll truly enjoy your stop at the Vigeland Sculpture Park which contains 192 sculptures with more than 600 figures modeled by Gustav Vigeland. You will be escorted to Holmenkollen, one of Norway's most popular tourist attractions. This site affords you unmatched views of Oslo, its surrounding forest and fjord. Later, board the ship for Copenhagen. [B/D]

Disembark and transfer to your hotel. Tour the city by motor coach, passing Tivoli Gardens, the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek and the National Museum. Cross the picturesque canal for views of the Christiansborg Palace, the old Stock Exchange, and, of course, the Little Mermaid. Visit the seventeenth-century Rosenborg Castle, the former royal summer residence. Then continue your adventure on an afternoon of individual exploration. Be sure to make it back in time for your farewell dinner. [B/D]
