Captain; HC Andersen; King Oscar II; Henrik Ibsen

As early as 1837, Danish storyteller H.C. Andersen took the canal to Stockholm. The same journey gained him the personal friendship of author Fredrika Bremer who boarded in Vänersborg.

Sixty years old, dramatist Henrik Ibsen travelled the same route. The same boat carried explorer Sven Hedin to the capital and in the evenings the two were seen conversing in the dining room over swirling whiskey-tumblers.

HM King Oscar II took several hunting trips to Bromsö island in lake Vänern. He was especially delighted when he could take his whole hunting entourage on a canal boat for part of the trip.

In 1983 the Danish travel agency billionaire Simon Spies chose the M/S Wilhelm Tham for his wedding trip with his young wife Jannie. It was a trip bar none. In addition to the newly-weds, the entire leadership of his company, thirty servants, a nurse, two bakers, two chefs, some security guards and chosen journalists were included on board.
